This is the only book that has been published in this series so far. Based on the Jamaica ROSE Curriculum, it gives detailed coverage of the topics in the first secondary year including the history, cultural heritage, social issues and problems in contemporary Jamaica. A well-written, popular text, it has been recommended by the MOEYC as an approved text. Groundwork is laid for the later development of more advanced social studies concepts. A variety of lively activities help to develop teamwork, analysis and problem-solving skills, as well as research and communication skills.

is a Senior Lecturer in social studies at the Institute of Education, UWI, Mona. She has written other textbooks.

Pansy Robinson
experienced educator of social studies programmes for teachers at all levels of the educational system. She served for some time as Education Officer for Social Studies in the MOE, Jamaica.

Barbara Nelson
taught at the secondary level but made her name as a journalist and researcher.
