For Ages: 17-Adult

  • Nasser Mustapha

Sociology for Caribbean Students – Third Edition is the revised edition by Carlong Publishers, following the previous edition from former publishers, Ian Randle Publishers. This well-known Sociology textbook used at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) level in the Caribbean now includes new activities and data to enable students to better understand concepts that might be challenging.

This edition matches the latest CAPE® Sociology syllabus and is divided into two major units with three modules each, covering topics such as Family, Culture and Identity, Religion and Institutions of Social Control in the Caribbean. It simplifies sociology for the introductory student while incorporating the perspective of the Caribbean and developing societies within the traditional concepts and theories of sociology.

BONUS: Sociology for Caribbean Students – Third Edition can also be used by tertiary-level students.

Inside, unit one explores early sociologists and their theories, two main types of sociological research, socio-cultural diversity in the Caribbean and social institutions and social stratification; and unit two examines population growth rate and trends, population policies and its related issues such as birth control and migration, social development, Caribbean development, institutions of social control and more.

The text also includes varied exercises with answers provided, a comprehensive bibliography, extremely convenient comparative tables on different sociologists’ perspectives and end-of-chapter summaries.

Key Features:

• Significantly revised material in line with the latest CAPE® Sociology syllabus
• Varied exercises to clarify concepts and theories in each chapter, and answers provided
• New and updated research data
• Extensive index at the back of the book
• A comprehensive bibliography
• Comparative tables on different sociologists’ perspective
• End-of-chapter summaries
